| A brief history of
Moorfields Estates
Moorfields
stands in a 20-acre site acquired during the Second
World War by the Ministry of Defence. The development
of the site was never finally completed but extensive
building operations were carried out to an advanced
stage, including the laying of drains, road works and
the erection of a number of residential units. The war
terminated before the site was used and in 1949 it was
acquired Mr. D. G. Barker a timber haulage contractor
and used by him for this purpose. He also did vehicle
repairs.
In 1975 the site was
acquired by Mr M. J. Gibbons. At this time the site
was over grown and resembled a scrap yard as can be
seen on photo 1. Photo 2 shows the same part of the
site today. Mr Gibbons operated his Plant Hire
Business from Moorfields, at the same time clearing
the site of scrap and rebuilding the then derelict buildings
which can be seen on photo 3. Photo 3 and 4 shows the
same building today.
In 1978 Mr Gibbons
made an application for permission to develop part of
the site into industrial units. Permission was granted
in 1981 and now to his credit has 28 Units creating
jobs in a lovely environment. The site also has great
demand for caravan storage and out side storage.
The site is
still owned and run by the Gibbons family.
